Scope:

IAAPA is well-known in the thrill ride industry for its annual trade show which showcases new thrill rides available to theme parks around the world. However, due to the global pandemic of 2019-2020, the industry has found itself changed both in terms of thrill ride attendance and handling event shows such as this. To combat both of these, IAAPA has decided to pilot a new virtual event: CoastCon! This event would be a virtual show that would have areas that are open to the general public, as well as sections available only to members and select guests.

DESIGN PROCESS!

DESIGN

PROCESS!

Research

Know and understand the significance of IAAPA, as well as the scope of this virtual event.

Empathize

Gather intel on previous events to decrease frustrations and errors that will deter guests from continuing to attend.

Design

Our team curated a thorough style guide with color, type, button, iconography, and interactions for the website and merch.

Implement

Our team designed and prototyped a website, virtual show floor, and merchandise for the event for speakers, guest, and members.

Evaluate

Our team kept frequent contact with IAAPA to ensure goals, all designs and assets were approved before launch.

Blueprint:

The event website will be a central hub for CoastCon, serving both as a marketing tool and an interactive platform. It will feature sections for event information, speaker details, schedules, sponsor highlights, and ticket sales. Member-only areas will provide personalized experiences, including a virtual show floor, gamification elements, and social connectivity options.
The website will include six web pages that are designed with the agreed-upon styling and design IAAPA’s team chose from our initial client meeting that was done on May 31, 2024.

Research:

IAAPA wants to create a virtual version of their annual trade show, called CoastCon. This event will have areas for the general public and exclusive sections for members. The goal is to provide an engaging online experience with interactive elements like virtual show floors and vendor booths. IAAPA aims for a strong brand identity, offer a great user experience, and adapt to the changes caused by the global pandemic. The project will showcase new thrill rides and help connect people in the industry.

Design:

  • Home - one page displaying general information about the event, features, speakers, etc.

  • Schedule of Events - one page listing out the events in chronological order.

  • Speakers - one page showing who will be the speakers for the event, the dates, times, and information for guests to be properly informed.

  • Our Sponsors - one page advertising the necessary brands and partnerships of the event.

  • About IAAPA - one page detailing the general information about what IAAPA is, what they do, its history, and contact information for the general public.

  • Ticket Sales & Checkout - one page that will allow guests to be able to purchase tickets for the event, as well as go through the entire checkout process of customers inputting their: Shipping Address, Billing Details, Delivery / Shipping Method, Payment Method, and Ticket Order Review & Submit.

Constraints:

The constraints for this project were dependent on the feedback, schedule of meetings, and client responsibilities being met for our team to be able to carry our weight for this project. Certain constraints that would’ve hindered effective progress would be:

- Delayed feedback from the client can push back each subsequent phase of the project.

- Timely provision of content and feedback is critical to keep the project on schedule.

- Major changes or additional requests from the client may require renegotiation of deadlines.

Challenges:

Our team’s biggest setback with this project was the short timeframe we had to get this event done. Since, we only had 3 months to get this done (realistically, this is a one-year task), it was a race against the clock to get all deliverables complete and delivered for delivery and launch. However, our team of six worked diligently to get this project up to par with our client’s goals.

Overall Outcome:

This project was my ultimate favorite to work on, and a reason why I kept the best for last! It taught my proper time management, project management, communication, delivery time, contract promises, and using Figma to the fullest. I am extremely grateful to have worked on this project, with my awesome group who made the experience even better!
